Alexander Rumyantsev

Count Alexander Ivanovich Rumyantsev (Russian Александр Иванович Румянцев, scientific transliteration Aleksandr Ivanovich Rumjancev; * 1680, † March 15, 1749 ) was a general of the Russian army.

Life

Rumyantsev occurred in 1704 in the Preobrazhensky Guards Regiment and rose through the favor of Peter the Great on quickly. He was commander of the army in 1722 in Persia, and then went as ambassador to Constantinople Opel. In 1732 he was exiled by the Empress Anna because of wasteful management of Kroneinkünfte to Kazan in 1735 and governor there.

He fought under Burkhard Christoph von Munnich against the Turks, and closed on August 7, 1743 the Treaty of Åbo, for which he was charged by the Empress Elizabeth in the title of count.

1720 he married Countess Maria Matwejewa, granddaughter and heiress of the statesman and reformer Artamon Sergeyevich Matveyev ( 1625-1682 ). The son of this marriage was the Field Marshal Pyotr Alexandrovich Rumyantsev - Sadunaiski ( 1725-1796 ).
