Alexander Tchigir

Alexander Tchigir [NB 1] (Russian: Александр Чигирь; born November 6, 1968 in Moscow ) is a German water polo goalkeeper of Russian origin.

Tchigir 1991 won bronze in the Soviet Union at the European Championships. In the 1992 Olympics he won the bronze medal with the team in the CIS. 1994 at the World Championships won his third bronze medal Tchigir, this time with the Russian national team. Overall Tchigir completed 344 caps for the Soviet Union and Russia.

On 4 December 1997 Tchigir received the German citizenship. Since then he has played more than 300 internationals for Germany (as of June 2010). The best result with the German team was the fifth place at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. At the World Championship 2005 Tchigir was elected in spite of space 9 of the German team in the Allstar team. In the World Cup 2007 Germany was eighth, Tchigir was re-elected by the media representatives to All-Star Team and also received a special award as the best goalkeeper of the FINA tournament.

Tchigir plays for eleven years for the water Spandau 04, with whom he once won the league and cup double in nine; 2003, the only team champion and 2006 only Cup winner was. Previously Tchigir played for the SV Würzburg 05 The 1.91 m wide Tchigir is a trained qualified sports teacher.
