Alexander Toluboff

Alexander Toluboff (* in October 1882 in Lublin, Poland ( at the time of birth: Russian Empire ); † July 1, 1940 in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan) was a native of Russia American art director, which the three times for the Academy Award for best Production Design was nominated.

Biography

Toluboff came at a young age in the United States and was naturalized by the U.S. District Court of San Francisco on August 2, 1926. His career as an art director, he started in the film industry in Hollywood in 1927 when the son of the taiga and was involved up to his death in the producing around 35 films.

His first nomination for an Academy Award for Best Production Design, he received at the Academy Awards in 1938 for For You, Madame ... (1937 ). Other nominations for the Oscar in this category in 1939 for Algiers (1938 ) and 1940 for Ringo ( 1939).

Other well-known films in which he was responsible for the production design, were Queen Christina (1933 ) and You Only Live Once (1937 ). One of his assistants during this time was also from Russia native Alexander Golitzen.
