Alexander Vostokov

Alexander Christoforowitsch Wostokow (Russian Александр Христофорович Востоков; . * 16 Märzjul / March 27 1781greg in Ahrensburg on Saaremaa in the former province of Livonia, .. . † 8 Februarjul / February 20 1864greg in Saint Petersburg ) was a Russian philologist of German origin.

He was originally called Osteneck he ( ie Eastern Vostok in Russian) later Wostokow Russified. The name Svetlana was introduced by him the Russian language and published by Vasily Zhukovsky ballad. He studied at the Russian Academy of Arts in Saint Petersburg. Throughout his life he was a poet and translator. He did deserve it. Considered the founder of comparative linguistics in Russian and as explorers of the Old Church Slavonic language, especially as the discoverer of the Ostromir Gospel, the oldest East Slavic manuscript
