Alexandr Zubkov

Alexander Jurjewitsch Zubkov (Russian Александр Юрьевич Зубков; born August 10, 1974 in Bratsk ) is a Russian politician and bob pilot.

Career

Bob

Alexander Zubkov is the most successful Russian bob pilot. He lives in Dmitrov and is active in bobsleigh since 1999. Successes came very quickly. He is active both in the two- man and four as well. At the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi in 2014 he won the gold medal in both the two - and four-man bobsleigh in.

Greater success he achieved mostly with the great Bob. In the season 2002/ 03 he was in the four-man bobsleigh rollercoaster of the overall World Cup in the four-man event and the combination and won with his Anschiebern Alexei Seliwerstow, Sergei Golubev and Dmitri Stepuschkin with the bronze medal at the Bob World Championships 2003 in Lake Placid the first Russian Bobmedaille since the demise of the Soviet Union. The following season he finished second overall in the four-man behind André Lange. His best season drove the Russian 2004/05. In the four-man event, he won two World Cup races and was second five times and finally won the championship. In the two-man, he was second once and third three times and finished in the final third. In the combined score, he finished second behind Martin Annen. At the World Championships Zubkov four-man could, again in the cast with Seliwerstow, Golubev and Stepuschkin, behind Long win silver. Similarly successful was the season 2005/06. Four times won Zubkov bobs, including twice for the first time with the little Bob, two each time he finished second and third. He again won the overall title in the great Bob, in two only Pierre Lueders was better that struck him in the combined score of both carriage only six points. At the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin Zubkov won with his Anschiebern Filip Yegorov, Alexei Wojewoda Seliwerstow and the silver medal and just had to admit defeat André Lange again. In the two-man he just missed another medal in fourth place.

In December 2006, Zubkov was seriously injured and was only able to start almost a year later in the World Cup. He was able to continue the old successes and won the 2007/ 08 three races and was four times fourth. In the overall standings of the two-man competition was at the end of a third, large slide, a second rank to book. Also in the Bob World Cup 2008 in Altenberg Zubkov won silver medal in the four-man and a re also the first bronze in a small sled. After the 2009/10 season, he stepped back from the Bobsleigh and was established in August Minister of Irkutsk Oblast for Fiskultura, sports and youth. Due to his recall to the Russian Bobnationalmannschaft in October 2010 Zubkov was recalled again by the Office.

Prior to his career in bobsleigh Zubkov was luger. He participated in the 1998 Olympics in Nagano, where he was part of the 20 single-seater. Still in the 1998/99 season he started in Luge World Cup and was 12th overall.
