Alexandra Palace

The Alexandra Palace ( known by the nickname Ally Pally also ) was opened in 1873 as a leisure and recreation park "The People's Palace " on a hill in the north of the London Borough of Haringey.

History

Two weeks after the opening of the building burned down almost completely, but was rebuilt in the following two years. During World War II German prisoners of war were interned here. Due to its exposed location, the Alexandra Palace was used in 1935 for the first television broadcasts of the BBC. The broadcast will be simulcast since the south-east tower of the plant. Since December 2007, the Alexandra Palace is the annual host of the Dartweltmeisterschaft the PDC. Thus, the long tradition of darts tournaments in the Palace continues, in which, among other things, to 1990, the News of the World Darts Tournament, the oldest in the world dart tournament was held. 2012 was played there for the first time the prestigious Masters Snooker.

Approach

The building can be reached via the Piccadilly Line, Station Wood Green ( London Underground ). The Alexandra Palace Station is a railway station of British Rail.
