Alexandre Desplat

Alexandre Michel Gérard Desplat [ ˌ alɛksɑndʀ ( ə ) ˌ de pla ] ( born August 23, 1961 in Paris ) is a French composer. He made a name for himself as a music composer of far more than 100 film and television productions.

Biography

Childhood and education

Alexandre Desplat was born in Paris in 1961. His French father and his mother, a Greek had met while studying in the U.S. Berkeley College. Desplat, who grew up bilingual, at an early age took music lessons. At six years old he received piano lessons, with eight or ten years, trumpet and flute lessons. At the same time, Desplat began to compose first own songs. He continued his education at the Conservatoire de Paris under Claude Ballif and continued at Le Atelier UPIC by Xenakis. Desplat studied further orchestration in Los Angeles at Jack Hayes. His fascination with American jazz and scores of Hollywood films later flowed into his work.
