Alexandre Du Sommerard

You Sommerard Alexandre ( Alexandre Dusommerard; * November 1779; † August 19, 1842 in Saint- Cloud) was a French archaeologist and art collector.

Alexandre Dusommerard was born in November, 1779. He served in the revolutionary wars as a volunteer, joined in 1801 as counsel to the Audit Chamber and died on August 19, 1842 in St. Cloud.

He had created in his apartment, the Hôtel Cluny in Paris, an impressive collection of medieval tools and objects of art, which was purchased by the state in 1843 and transformed into the public Musée de Cluny. The result of his researches made ​​Dusommerard in the splendid work " Les arts du moyen âge, " (Paris 1839-46, 5 ​​vols with 510 engravings ) are known.

One of his sons, Edmond Dusommerard (* April 27, 1817; † February 5, 1885 ), until his death, was curator of the collection and has published a catalog about it.
