Alexandre-Évariste Fragonard

Alexandre- Évariste Fragonard ( born October 26, 1780 in Grasse ( Var), † November 15, 1850 in Paris) was a French painter and sculptor.

Life

Fragonard was the son of the painter Jean- Honoré Fragonard from which he also received his first art lessons. Through the mediation of his father Fragonard was later a student of Jacques -Louis David.

Fragonard pursued initially the classical direction, but later went over to the romantic. His later paintings are considered too theatrical. But he was happy in the choice of motifs and bold and safe to perform.
