Alexandre Guimarães

Alexandre Borges Guimarães ( born November 7, 1959 in Maceio, Brazil) is a Brazilian- Costa Rican football player and coach.

The Brazilian-born Guimarães lives in Costa Rica, whose citizenship he assumed in 1984 since he was 11. He came to this country as a player already at the Football World Cup 1990, reaching the round of sixteen. Guimarães played a total of 16 matches. 1982, 1988 and 1989, he was Costa Rican champion.

After the 2002 World Cup, when he was coach of Costa Rica, he stepped back, but took at the request of the Association in 2005 the post again.

After the preliminary rounds off at the World Cup 2006 Guimarães declared beginning of July 2006 again his resignation, in response to media criticism in Costa Rica and threats against his family. In November 2006 he took the post as coach of the national football team of Panama. After a failed World Cup qualifying, he was released in June 2008.

In the 2009/10 season coached Al Wasl Guimarães, a club based in Dubai, which plays in the top division of the United Arab Emirates.

From the 2011/12 season is Guimarães, CD Saprissa train as early as the 90s.
