Alexandre Lamfalussy

Alexandre Lamfalussy ( born April 26, 1929 in Kapuvar, Hungary ) is regarded as one of the mentors and supporters of the single European financial system and capital markets expert.

Lamfalussy was in the period from 1994 to 1997 President of the European Monetary Institute in Frankfurt am Main. In 1976, he joined as an economic adviser to the BIS (Bank for International Settlements ) in Basel, where he held the position of Assistant General Manager in the period 1981 to 1985. He was appointed General Manager of the BIS then what he remained until the end of 1993.

He graduated from the Catholic University of Leuven (Belgium ) his training and received the degree of Dr. phil. in economics from Oxford University ( Nuffield College). Later he taught at the University of Louvain and Yale University.

He is the author of numerous scientific papers and books on economic policy.

His name also carries the Lamfalussy process, which was developed by a " Committee of Wise Men ", chaired by Baron Lamfalussy held, worked out.
