Alexandria is a village on Newfound Lake in Grafton County, New Hampshire in the United States of America. The settlement permit, with the area of Alexandria officially settlement was approved for, dating back to 1753. The number of inhabitants amounted to 1536 in 2008. The only other district is South Alexandria on Smith River.

History

The status of a registered community has probably chosen with reference to Alexandria in Virginia since in 1782. The name was Alexandria. There, the first meeting of governors of various states and provinces in North America took place in 1755. Eight years after the registration of Alexandria had 298 inhabitants.

Population

The population is Caucasian to almost 98 %. The remaining two percent are African, Asian or Indian origin or be more than one origin to. The gender distribution is balanced, 74.3 % in 2000 were old 5-65 years.

Administrative and Municipal Facilities

The municipality is governed by a council consisting of three boards and a managing director. To administer the tax office are a law enforcement officer, including alternates, the highway department, volunteer firefighters and police. To the latter belongs to an animal protection officer. The police chief has been working part-time and also fills the role of an emergency coordinator from. The community also employs treasurer, health officer, a forest fire guards and two moderators. In addition to the Planning Commission, there are bodies for the municipal budget, recycling and conservation. Alexandria has a recycling station, sorted are collected on the paper and metals, a library and a church. Medical service is voluntary, comparable to the volunteer fire department. The nearest hospital is 21 miles away Speare Memorial in Plymouth. There is no public water supply or sanitation. Water comes from private wells. Likewise, the waste water is collected in private tanks.

Economy and Transport

There are four commercial farms in the local area with a total of fifteen employees. The largest company is a company for the manufacture of floating oil and similar barriers. Alexandria has no train or direct motorway access. The state highway NH 104, also called Ragged Mountain Highway, passes through South Alexandria and crosses nine miles Distance to Interstate I- 93rd In nearby Bristol there is a landing strip. The nearest airport with scheduled service is located in Lebanon 64 km distant, nearest intercontinental airport is Logan International Airport in Boston, 174 miles away.

Tourism

In the north of Alexandria is the Newfound Lake, which is partly due to the municipality, as well as the Mount Cardigan State Park in the west. In the latter there is a Lodge of the Appalachian Mountain Club, one of the oldest recreational associations of the United States. Of tourist facilities Alexandria has beaches and a marina on Newfound Lake, snowmobiling and cross-country trails, hiking trails in a state park and camping. There are hunting and fishing.
