Alexandru Buligan

Alexandru Buligan Tomici ( born April 22, 1960 in Drobeta Turnu Severin ) is a former Romanian handball player and current coach.

The 2.00 m wide Goalkeeper began in his hometown in Drobeta Turnu Severin CSS with the handball game. At age 17 he made his debut in the Romanian league at CSU Politehnica Timişoara, where he won the trophy in 1988. His second stop was CS Dinamo Bucharest. In 1990 he moved to the Spanish Liga ASOBAL to JD Arrate and later BM Guadalajara. In 1999 he suffered a car accident that had almost ended his career. His longest and most successful stop was at Portland San Antonio, where he was the EHF Champions League 2001, the Spanish Championship in 2002, 1999 and 2001, the trophy, the EHF Champions Trophy 2000 and the European Cup Winners' Cup win in 2001. After his career in late 2002, he worked as a goalkeeper and assistant coach in San Antonio. Since 2010 he has been an assistant coach at HCM Constanta in Romania.

With the Romanian national team of the 280 - times capped goalkeeper won at the 1984 Olympic Games bronze and also took part in the 1992 Olympic Games. At the World Championships 1993 he again reached bronze.

Alexandru Buligan is a mechanical engineer and married. His wife still lives in Pamplona.
