Alexandru Custov

Alexandru " Sandu " " Bulgarul " Custov (also Custof and Custoff ) ( born May 8, 1954 in Fundeni, Ilfov County, today district Calarasi, † March 20, 2008 ) was a Romanian football player. He completed 336 games in the highest Romanian football league, the Divizia A.

Career

Custov began playing football in 1968 Gloria Fundeni, from where he moved to the youth of Dinamo Bucharest after a year. In the 1971/72 season he made his debut for Dinamo on May 4, 1972 the game against Farul Constanta in Divizia A. Until 1984 Custov played 319 top-flight appearances for Dinamo Bucharest and is the player with the second most games by Cornel Dinu in the club's history. During this time he was able to win five league titles and two cup wins. Custov was one of the successful team of Dinamo, the Inter Milan in the UEFA Cup 1981/82 ausschaltete and qualified for the semi-finals of the European Cup of Champions 1983/84. In 1984 he moved to Dinamo's satellite club AS Victoria Bucharest, for which he ran aground until 1986. In the first half of the 1986/87 season he played with Gloria Buzau and finished his career after the second round, he had spent in the second division Mecanica Fina Bucharest. Overall Custov came to 336 games in Divizia A, in which he scored 29 goals. There were a further 30 European Cup games in which he hit three times. After the end of his career and after two divorces, the first lieutenant of the militia of Bucharest Romanian moved back to his home village Fundeni, where he died on 20 March 2008 from the effects of his diabetes and thrombophlebitis.

National

Custov played two games for the Romanian national football team. He came on both times and scored no goals. He made his debut on August 18, 1982 against Japan and after the qualifying match for the European Football Championship 1984 on 8 September 1982 against Sweden was his international career to an end. Furthermore Custov had scored a goal in seven games for the U21 national team and a goal in three games of the U23 national team.
