Alexei Semenov

Alexei Anatoljevich Semyonov (Russian Алексей Анатольевич Семёнов; born April 10, 1981 in Murmansk, Russian SFSR ) is a Russian ice hockey player. Since 2010 he plays for the SKA St. Petersburg in the Kontinental Hockey League on the position of the defender.

Career

Semyonov first played in the youth teams of clubs from the Russian Super League and ventured into the 1998/99 season at the age of 17 years the leap to North America, where he hired at the Sudbury Wolves in the Ontario Hockey League. In his first season he played 28 games and was finally selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 1999 in the second round to 36th position from the Edmonton Oilers. Nevertheless, remained Semyonov two more years in Sudbury and improved significantly. After 63 points in 65 games in the 2000/ 01 season drew him out of the league with the Max Kaminsky Trophy for the best defenders in the league and called him after 2000 for the second time in a row in one of the three All-Star teams.

Having already collected in the playoffs the season 1999 /00 first experience with the Hamilton Bulldogs, the farm team of the Oilers, from the American Hockey League, it took this for season 2001 /02 determined under contract. By consistently good first AHL season he made in the 2002/03 season for the first time jump into the NHL squad the Oilers and ran in a total of 46 games. Unlike many other NHL pros Semyonov remained for the season 2005/ 06 but still concentrated in Europe and ran in two games for Lokomotiv Yaroslavl. After he had reached an agreement with the Oilers on a new contract, he transferred after a short time to the Florida Panthers, where he spent the rest of the season, but was briefly employed at the Farm Team Rochester Americans. In the season 2006/ 07 Semyonov extended his contract with the Panthers for one year. Since he was the NHL roster for the time being, however, not made ​​the jump and was off again to Rochester, he moved back to the Russian Super League Salavat Yulaev Ufa to before the Panthers piloted him in February 2007 back to North America. In the summer of 2007, he then signed a one-year contract with the San Jose Sharks. In the strong field squad Semyonov, however, could not prevail as already in Edmonton and Florida, and came to only 22 missions, which were characterized frequently errors. Nevertheless, the management paid him just before the start of the 2008/09 season with a new one-year contract.

After his discharge the defender was initially not a new team, but was invited by the New York Rangers into the training camp in September 2009. Although the end of September 2009, it was reported on a contract signature Semyonov, but the agreement was negated little later. Beginning of October 2009 was taken from the HK Dynamo Moscow of the Kontinental Hockey League contract. For the 2010/11 season he returned once more to the SKA Saint Petersburg.
