Alexei Uchitel

Alexei Uchitel Jefimowitsch (Russian Алексей Ефимович Учитель; born August 31, 1951 in Leningrad ) is a Russian film director and producer.

Life and work

Alexei Uchitel came in 1951 as the son of the documentary director Yefim Uchitel to the world. In 1975 he graduated from the Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography and began to work for the Leningrad Documentary Film Studio. In 1991 he founded his own film studio called Rok.

His debut as a feature film director, he was in 1996 with the film Manija Giselli ( Мания Жизели ), which tells of the life of the dancer Olga Spessiwzewa. His second feature film, Dnevnik JEWO scheny ( Дневник его жены, his wife 's diary ), was published in 2000 and deals with the last years of the writer Ivan Bunin. For Dnevnik JEWO scheny Uchitel received the Russian Film Award Nika. For his film Progulka ( Прогулка, The walk ), he was honored at the Cottbus Film Festival Special Prize for an outstanding artistic contribution. 2008 Alexei Uchitel won on the same festival with the film Plenny ( Пленный, German Title: Trapped ) the main prize for the best film.
