Alexey Verstovsky

Alexei Nikolaevich Verstovsky (. * 18 Februarjul / March 1 1799greg in the government of Tambov, .. . † 5 Novemberjul / November 17 1862greg in Moscow) was a Russian composer.

Verstovsky studied engineering at the Scientific Institute of Saint Petersburg and has also played piano lessons with Daniel Steibelt and John Field and violin lessons with Louis Wilhelm Maurer. Since 1825 he was a music inspector at the Imperial Theatre in Moscow, 1848 to 1860, he headed the theater office in Moscow.

With its composition and Aljabjews The Triumph of the Muses, the new building of the Bolshoi Theatre was opened in 1825. His work Askold's grave was the first Russian opera, which was performed in the United States. Save more than twenty vaudeville he composed operas and incidental music, cantatas, choral works, songs and church music.
