Alexis-Armand Charost

Alexis -Armand Cardinal Charost ( born November 14, 1860 in Le Mans, France, † November 7, 1930 in Rennes) was Archbishop of Rennes.

Life

Alexis -Armand Charost studied in Le Mans, Angers Rome and the subjects of Catholic theology and philosophy. He received on 19 May 1883, the sacrament of Holy Orders, and then taught as a teacher at a Catholic school. From 1892 to 1894 he served as director of a Catholic boarding school, from 1894 to 1899 he was the personal secretary of the Archbishop of Rennes. In the years 1909-1913 he served as Vicar General of the Administration of the Archdiocese of Rennes.

On February 14, 1913, Pope Pius X appointed titular bishop of Miletopolis and Auxiliary Bishop of Cambrai with the jurisdiction of a vicar general for the diocese of Lille. In the same year was Alexis -Armand Charost first Bishop of Lille. 1920 Pope Benedict XV appointed him. Titular Archbishop of Chersonesus in Zechia and Koadjutorerzbischof of the Archdiocese of Rennes, which he headed in 1921. Pope Pius XI. took him on 11 December 1922 as cardinal priest with the titular church of Santa Maria della Vittoria to the College of Cardinals.

Alexis -Armand Charost died on November 7, 1930 in Rennes and was buried in the local basilica.
