Alexis Pinturault

Alexis Pinturault (born 20 March 1991 Moutiers ) is a French alpine skier. It belongs to the A-team of the French Ski Federation at, is twofold junior world champion in giant slalom and four-time French champion. In 2014 he won the bronze medal in the giant slalom at the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi.

Biography

Pinturault grew up in Courchevel, where his father is a hotel owner. His mother is from Norway, so he also has Norwegian citizenship. In August 2006 Pinturault denied in Argentina its first FIS races. In the winter of 2006/ 07 he took part only in competitions in France, but remained without major success. Only at the beginning of the season 2007/ 08 he first came in the top ten in a FIS race. In his first major event, the Junior World Championship 2008 in the Spanish Formigal he came in all competitions to the finish and thus reached # 13 in the combined score. Shortly before, he had first participated in Madesimo at European Cup races, but without reaching the points. Also in the 2008/ 09 season was Pinturault in his seven European Cup inserts without points, but he missed twice narrowly than 31 score points.

In December 2008 Pinturault won his first FIS races. A stir he made at the Junior World Championships 2009 in Garmisch -Partenkirchen, when he surprisingly won the gold medal in the giant slalom. Two weeks later, he confirmed this performance with the French title in the super combined. As a junior world champion, he came at the season finale in Åre also to his first World Cup competition, however, where it failed in the first run of the giant slalom.

End of November 2009 brought Pinturault with 25th place in the second giant slalom in Levi his first European Cup points and in early December he came in the giant slalom at Val Thorens in the European Cup for the first time in the top ten. At the Junior World Championship 2010 in the region of Mont Blanc, he finished fifth in the Super -G. In the slalom, he left for superior fastest time in the second passage. In the European Cup him the 2009/10 season in Kranjska Gora succeeded with second place in the final giant slalom, his first podium finish. During his four World Cup stakes this winter he never reached the goal.

In January 2011 Pinturault celebrated in the giant slalom and the slalom of Kirchberg in Tirol his first European Cup victories. In the coming weeks, followed by another three races in which he prematurely secured the overall victory in the 2010/11 season. At the Junior World Championships 2011, he won for the second time the gold medal in the giant slalom. After he had stayed with his previous world cup inserts in the slalom and giant slalom with no points, he went 5 February 2011 at his first World Cup Super -G in Hinterstoder with start number 62 to sixth place. In four days later discharged Super -G World Cup 2011 in Garmisch -Partenkirchen Pinturault fell out; in the World Cup slalom, he was ranked 17th the first World Cup podium finish he scored on 5 March 2011, when he was second in the giant slalom in Kranjska Gora.

At the start of the World Cup season 2011/12 in October 2011 in Sölden Pinturault finished second in the giant slalom. Two more second places followed in early February in Chamonix in the super combined and the beginning of March in Kranjska Gora giant slalom. The first World Cup victory was on 21 February 2012 at the City event in Moscow. At the World Cup finals in Schladming followed with second place in the Super- G, the first podium in a speed race. He finished the Giant Slalom and Combined World Cup respectively in fourth position in the World Cup and was tenth.

End of July 2012 Pinturault suffered while playing tennis a torn ligament in his left ankle. He had to pause for about three months and missed the opening round of the 2012/2013 season in Sölden. He rose again in November to the World Cup and celebrated on 8 December 2012 at the slalom in Val d'Isere his second World Cup victory. Further victories get him in the super combined in Wengen and giant slalom in Garmisch -Partenkirchen. In the combination discipline rating Pinturault finished level on points with Ivica Kostelic the first place. At the World Championships in 2013, he narrowly missed a medal in four races, he was once in fifth and sixth place three times.

In the 2013/14 season he was victorious in slalom in Wengen and in the super combination of Kitzbühel. In addition, he secured again the combination discipline standings, this time tied with Ted Ligety. At the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, he left in the Super Combined Slalom and won on 19 February 2014 with the bronze in the giant slalom Olympic medal his first. At the World Cup finals in Lenzerheide Pinturault succeeded on March 13, 2014 his first World Cup victory in the Super -G. Now he can already in all disciplines, with the exception of departure, allow at least one World Cup victory.
