Alf Andersen

Alf Steen Andersen ( born May 5, 1906 in Drammen, Buskerud, † April 12, 1975 in Frogn, Akershus ) was a Norwegian ski jumper. He jumped for the sports club Lyn Oslo.

At the Olympic Winter Games in 1928 in St. Moritz, he won the gold medal. His compatriot Jacob Tullin Thams brought it on though considerably more wide- points, but crashed when landing his second jump. Previously Thams had even complained to the Swiss jury that the start-up was chosen too long. Andersen's Olympic victory, making it one of the most controversial of the ski jumping story. Since the Nordic World Ski Championships were held this year at the Olympic games, Andersen was with his victory at the same time world champion.

In 1928, he also made it with 48 meters in the meantime a hill record at the Holmenkollen ski jump on. Once again, Andersen went to at the Nordic World Ski Championships 1935 at the Czechoslovak Vysoke Tatry. He won the bronze medal behind his countrymen Birger Ruud and Reidar Andersen.
