Alf Brustellin

Alf Brustellin ( born July 27, 1940 in Vienna, † November 11, 1981 in Munich) was an Austrian, active in the Federal Republic of Germany filmmaker, director, writer, producer, cinematographer and actor.

The son of an officer moved with his parents in the fifties to Mönchengladbach. He studied after high school ten semesters German literature and theater studies in Munich. There he began in 1964 his artistic work as a member of the cabaret " Rational theater," which he belonged until 1966. 1966 to 1971 he was features editor at the SZ from 1967 to 1969 Employees of the magazine "Film " and taught at the University of Television and Film Munich and the German School of Journalism. As a freelancer, he has written for various magazines, including the mirror.

With a documentary for the WDR on Alexander Kluge Brustellin began his film work. Along with Edgar Reitz, Ula Stöckl and Nikos Perakis, he participated in 1971 for the film The Golden thing both on the script and on the Director. 1972/73 he delivered about 50 posts for the ARD - school series Sesame Street.

For Bernhard Sinkel Brustellin worked as a cameraman on the films The clinch and Lina Braake. The latter is a socially critical comedy, was a considerable success with the public. 1975 both established the company " ABS -Filmproduktion München". Together they were responsible for written and directed further films. While Berlinger and The Girls war were moderate successes, the following films were still more and more ignored and can be seen as examples of the slow silting of the New German Cinema in the end of 70 years against the background of German Autumn.

Only with the five -part TV adaptation of Thomas Mann's novel Confessions of Felix Krull (1981 ) for which Brustellin the script had provided, he could build on his earlier successes.

Alf Brustellin, who was romantically involved with actress Hannelore Elsner since 1973, died shortly afterwards from the effects of a car accident as a passenger of a taxi in Munich. His written heritage is in the archive of the Academy of Arts in Berlin.
