Alf Kumalo

Alf Khumalo ( born September 5, 1930 in Alexandra, Johannesburg, † 21 October 2012 in Soweto, Johannesburg; actually Alfred Khumalo and Alfred Kumalo ) was a South African photographer who was familiar with black-and- white photos from the period of apartheid. He was friends with Nelson Mandela and accompanied whose political career photographically as well as the struggle of the African National Congress against the white minority government in South Africa. He was persecuted by the apartheid regime and it also arrested.

Khumalo was self-taught in photography and yet has received numerous awards. In the 1950s he worked for the magazine Drum, which was produced for a black readership, for the Bantu World and the Golden City Post. In South Africa, he was also called "Bra Alf". In his last years he gave his knowledge to a photography school continues in Soweto, he received his own museum, the Museum Alfred Khumalo.
