Alfaia

The Alfaia is a lightweight bass drum made of wood that comes in Brazilian music, especially in the Maracatu used. It originates from the bass drum of the European march music. Originally, the body of a hollowed-out tree trunk was made ​​today of laminated plywood used. The Alfaia is covered with natural fur and is tuned with knitting. It is played in three different pitches. The flail of the right hand is considerably thicker and heavier than the left.
