Alfie (song)

Alfie is a song that was written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David in 1965 for the eponymous film. The first release was from Cilla Black, whose produced by George Martin single reached number 9 in 1966 the British charts. In order to generate more interest in the film in the U.S., United Artists decided to develop a new version of the play for the American version of the soundtrack. The choice fell on Cher, whose version was released in June 1966 in the U.S. and at # 32 on the Billboard Hot 100 came. Dionne Warwick recorded the song for her album Here Where There Is Love, which was released in December 1966. The single release in March 1967, and reached in June with their best finish rank 15 on the Billboard Hot 100 Over time, followed by numerous other cover versions of the song.
