Alfons Demming

Alfons Demming (* February 29, 1928 in Südlohn; † 31 October 2012 in Münster) was auxiliary bishop in the Diocese of Münster.

Life

Alfons Demming was the sixth of seven sons from the marriage of master painter Franz Demming and his wife Elisabeth. His second youngest brother was a pastor in Bork at Luedinghausen.

Demming studied philosophy at the former convict Pius Colleg and Catholic Theology at the Albert -Ludwigs- University of Freiburg, and in 1950 was a member of the Catholic Student Association KDSt.V. Hohenstaufen Freiburg im Breisgau in the CV. He received on 21 December 1953, the ordained priest by the Bishop of Munster Michael Keller and initially worked as a chaplain at St. Jakobi in Coesfeld and St. Joseph in Selm. In 1959, he became Church President and Head of Pius Colleg in Coesfeld, a former boys school, which he for Episcopal High School building ( now St. - Pius -Gymnasium Coesfeld ) goal for. The episcopal consecration on January 9, 1977 gave him the Bishop of Münster, Heinrich Tenhumberg; Co-consecrators were the Auxiliary Bishops of Münster Laurenz Böggering and Max Georg Freiherr von Twickel. His episcopal motto was " Rejoice, we are God's people."

In 1979 he was canon and dean in 1987 at St. Paul's Cathedral in Münster. In the German Bishops Conference, he was a member of the Commission for pastoral care issues. He is the founder of the Foundation " Help Africa ".

His health conditional resignation, Pope John Paul II on 30 April 1998. He died after a long illness at the consequences of a heart and kidney disease.
