Alfons Spielhoff

Alfons Spielhoff ( born July 3, 1912 in Essen, † 9 December 1987) was Dortmund Cultural Affairs.

Nationally known he was one of the initiators of a new cultural policy in the Federal Republic in the 1970s. With its slogan " cultural policy is social policy ," he advocated a decentralized cultural work in the suburbs and socio-cultural scenes. His initiative to the task of the Philharmonic Orchestra and the remaking of the new, represäntativen opera house in Dortmund led to violent clashes and demonstrations.

Life

Alfons Spielhoff grew up in the youth movement, after 1933 he was in the Hitler Youth. He studied in Berlin International Studies, after graduating him the promotion was denied because of a two-time Gestapo prison. As a soldier, he was convicted in 1944 for undermining military strength and imprisoned in Toulon, but could desert. By the summer of 1945 he was a prisoner of war in France.

1950 Spielhoff received his doctorate on the subject of his dissertation, "The technology as a problem of cultural studies ". Since 1951, Spielhoff engaged in the SPD, the PRO and the German Peace Society (DFG). From 1958 to 1959 he was chairman of the Association of German peace organizations and 1962-1974 Cultural Affairs of the City of Dortmund.

New cultural policy

As a member of the Cultural Committee of the German Association of Cities and the tariff committee of the German Theatre Association is Spielhoff committed against the concentration of urban cultural budget on a few representative areas, especially the theater. Due to the steady increase in staff costs in this area he feared a blockade of all other cultural activities. As Dortmund Cultural Affairs why he joined in 1973 for a role of the philharmonic orchestra and a reorganization of the remaining portions of the Dortmund City Theatre a. Many of his ideas have been developed in this context until much later and elsewhere implemented, about his proposal to lead the theater according to commercial principles as a limited company, or his proposal to set up a commercial division in the field of popular music and the musical. Game Hoffs closure plans were rejected by the Council of the City of Dortmund 1974.

His commitment to the socio-cultural set Spielhoff well as nationally continued, including the Cultural Policy. In Dortmund continued the systematic promotion of free culture scene and the district cultural work is a first in the 80s.

Honors

In Dortmund, the " Alfons Spielhoff Square " is named after him, to which the free theater Fletch Bizzel is.
