Alfonso Capecelatro

Alfonso Cardinal Capecelatro di Castelpagano CO ( born February 5, 1824 in Marseille, France, † November 14, 1912 in Capua, Italy) was Archbishop of Capua and later Cardinal.

Life

Originally from a Neapolitan noble family Capecelatro was ordained a priest after completing his studies in May 1847. He entered the Order of the Oratory, 1878 Vice- Librarian of the Holy See. Pope Leo XIII. awarded him in 1879 the title of papal prelate house.

1880 Capecelatro, Archbishop of Capua. He received his episcopal consecration Cardinal Raffaele Monaco La Valletta. Leo XIII. took him on 27 July 1885 as Cardinal Priest of Santi Nereo e Achilleo to the College of Cardinals. In 1890 he was papal librarian. He participated in the conclave of 1903 that elected Pius X.. In 1912, he died at 88 years.

Since 1891 he was a corresponding member of the Accademia della Crusca in Florence.
