Alfonso Castaldo

Cardinal Alfonso Castaldo ( born November 6, 1890 in Casoria, Province of Naples, Italy, † March 3, 1966 in Naples) was Archbishop of Naples.

Life

Alfonso Castaldo of Naples studied the subjects philosophy and Catholic theology. On 8 June 1913 he received the sacrament of Holy Orders. In the years 1914 to 1918, he participated as a military chaplain in the First World War. He then worked until 1934 in various communities of the Archdiocese of Naples.

1934 Pope Pius XI appointed him. Bishop of Pozzuoli. The bishop ordained by Cardinal Alfonso Castaldo Alessio Ascalesi, the Archbishop of Naples. 1949 awarded him Pope Pius XII. the title of Assistant at the Pontifical Throne, 1950, he appointed Alfonso Castaldo for Koadjutorerzbischof of the Archdiocese of Naples and titular Archbishop of Thessalonica. 1958 took over the management of the Archdiocese of Alfonso Castaldo of Naples. In the same year Pope John XXIII took him. as cardinal priest with the titular church of San Callisto in the College of Cardinals. He participated in the Second Vatican Council and the conclave of 1963.

Alfonso Castaldo died on March 3, 1966 in Naples, and was buried in the local cathedral.
