Alfonso Jordan

Alfonso Jordan of Toulouse (French Alphonse Jourdain; * 1103 in Mons Peregrinus ( Pilgrims mountain ), Tripoli, Lebanon, † April 1148 in Caesarea ) from the family of Raimundiner was Count of Toulouse and Marquis of Provence.

Life

Alfonso was the second son of Count Raymond IV of Toulouse and his third wife, Elvira of Castile. He was born in the Holy Land and baptized in the Jordan, which explains its nickname. His father died when he was two years old, and Alfons remained under the supervision of his relatives Wilhelm Jordan of Cerdange († 1109 ) in Lebanon. In 1108 he was brought by a delegation from Toulouse in southern France home of his father, where Alfonso was recognized as Earl. His older half-brother Bertrand had to give way, as it was doubted its legitimacy. Bertrand went to Lebanon, where he took over the County of Tripoli.
