Alfonso Lombardi

Alfonso Lombardi ( * ca 1497 in Ferrara, † 1537 in Bologna), also Lombardi as Lucca, Alfonso da Ferrara and Alfonso Lombardo, was an Italian sculptor.

Giorgio Vasari devoted a chapter to it in his book Le Vite delle più eccellenti pittori, Scultori, ed architettori.

From the Lombardi group of sculptures originates Death of the Virgin ( 1522) at the Oratory of Santa Maria della Vita. It shows a 15 -than-life figures, the twelve apostles around the coffin of the Virgin.

A formally similar group of sculptures Lamentation of Christ by Niccolò dell'Arca, is found in the church next to the Oratory.
