Alfonso Michel

Alfonso Michel Martínez ( * 1906 in Colima, † 1957 in Mexico City ) was a Mexican artist.

1906 Alfonso Michel was born in the Mexican city of Colima. In 1921 he first moved into the Mexican capital and then to San Francisco in California. There he began his artistic training. In 1923 he visited several countries in Europe and then spent two years in Florence. From 1925 to 1930 he lived in Paris, but returns later returned to Mexico. In Guadalajara he painted with Jesus Guerrero Galván and other artists. He was also responsible for some decorations in the University of Guadalajara. Later he gave up art to retire to his estate in Colima, however, to re- start shortly after painting. He exhibited his paintings from 1945 at the Galería de Arte Mexicano, Mexico City. The highlight of his career was an exhibition in Paris in 1950. 1957 he died in Mexico City.
