Alfonso Thiele

Alfonso Thiele (* April 5, 1922, † 1986) was an Italian racing driver who also had U.S. citizenship.

Alfonso Thiele was a sports car driver, who could come up with some success in the late 1950s and early 1960s. In 1957 he won the Mille Miglia on a Fiat Abarth class to 750 cc. In 1959, he won with a Ferrari 250GT his class at the GT race at Monza.

At the beginning of the 1960s he was works driver at Abarth and Alfa Romeo. In 1964, he was only one place behind his team-mate Roberto Bussinello, fourth at the Targa Florio.

Thiele had just made ​​an appearance in a single-seater. In 1960 he drove a Cooper T51 the Grand Prix of Italy. After a gearbox failure he had to abandon the race at halftime.
