Alfre Woodard

Alfre Woodard ( born November 8, 1952 in Tulsa, Oklahoma) is an American television and film actress and producer.

Biography

Woodard was born as the youngest of three children. The name Alfre she received from her godmother, who claimed to have had a vision in which the name Alfre appeared in golden letters. In high school she was a cheerleader and was enthusiastic about acting after she was convinced to participate in a play at her school.

Later she studied acting at Boston University and had a brief appearance in a Broadway play. Then she moved to Los Angeles. Her first major role was in 1978 in the film Remember My Name, in which Jeff Goldblum participated. For her role in the film Cross Creek she received a 1984 Oscar nomination for Best Actress in a Supporting Role. Your guest appearances in the television series LA Law and Hill Street Blues earned her an Emmy each one.
