Alfred Berger

Alfred " Fredl " Berger ( born August 25, 1894 in Vienna, † June 11, 1966 ) was an Austrian figure skater who, along with Helene Engelmann celebrated his greatest successes in pair skating. Together they launched the Vienna EV.

Alfred Berger took together with Helene Engelmann, which was successful even before the First World War by Karl Mejstrik, Austrian Figure Skating Championships three times in pair skating part and was able to win 1921-1923 three times in a row. In World Figure Skating Championships, she started twice and each could win the world title in 1922 in Davos, 1924 in Manchester. The greatest success of them also succeeded in 1924 the Winter Olympics in Chamonix, where they won, like at the World Cup in 1922, before the title defenders Jakobsson / Jakobsson gold.

In addition to his skating career Berger was Austrian Champion in rowing and bobsledding. After his sports career, he was the owner of a seed store. He was married to the opera singer Dagmar Schmedeswurth, daughter of over 30 years in Vienna acting Danish hero tenor Erik Schmedeswurth ( 1868-1931 ).
