Alfred Bertholet

Alfred Robert Felix Bertholet ( born November 9, 1868 in Basel, † August 24 1951 in Munsterlingen, hometown entitled in Basel and Aigle ) was a Swiss Reformed theologian.

Life

Bertholet studied Protestant theology at the universities of Basel, Strasbourg and Berlin and lizentierte in 1895. He habilitated in 1896 and in 1899 Associate Professor and in 1905 full professor in Basel. This was followed by the meeting places of Tübingen (1913 ), Göttingen (1914 ) and Berlin ( 1928), where he was in 1936 entpflichtet. After the Second World War Bertholet returned to Switzerland and worked from 1948 as a regular guest lecturer at the Faculty of Theology in Basel.

Bertholets teacher Bernhard Duhm influenced his work greatly. Alfred Bertholet published in his areas of expertise, " Old Testament " and " history of religion " strictly scientific as well as popularizing works before. With the 1919 published " Cultural History of Israel " he has worked the Old Testament research from a different angle and this was exempt from the one-sided embossing by archeology. Next Bertholet worked with on several compilations, which have attracted much attention in his time.

Bertholet 1938 became a member of the Prussian Academy of Sciences.
