Alfred Carl Graefe

Graefe, cousin of Albrecht von Graefe, studied from 1850 to 1854 in Halle and Berlin, also spent some time in Paris, in 1853 he became an assistant to Graefe and lived until 1857 the whole redesign of ophthalmology at.

In 1858 he habilitated in Hall of Ophthalmology and justified at the same time an institution for eye disorders. In 1873 he received the full professor of ophthalmology in Halle. Graefe was since the death of his cousin, the chief representative of the latter named after the school.

He earned both his academic teaching than by his restless zeal in ophthalmologic practice and an excellent surgeon so great a reputation that approximately 4,000 patients sought help from him.

He wrote:

  • Clinical analysis of motility disorders of the human eye (Berlin 1858);
  • Symptoms teaching of ocular palsies (1867 );

With Theodor Saemisch among other things, he edited the Handbook of the entire ophthalmology, ( Leipzig, 1874-80, 7 vols ), for which he edited the motility disorders.
