Alfred E. Driscoll

Alfred East paint Driscoll ( born October 25, 1902 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; † 9 March 1975) was an American politician and 1947-1954 Governor of the State of New Jersey.

Early years and political rise

After primary school, Alfred Driscoll attended Williams College and then studied until 1928 at the Harvard University law. After qualifying as a lawyer, he began to work in his new profession. Politically, he was a member of the Republican Party. Between 1938 and 1941 he was a member of the Senate of New Jersey. There he represented the Camden County. In 1941, he became commissioner of the State of New Jersey to control the handling of alcoholic beverages. On 5 November 1946, he was elected governor of his state.

Governor of New Jersey

Alfred Driscoll went to his office on January 21, 1947. During his tenure, the state constitution of New Jersey has been changed. The term of office of the Governor has been extended from three to four years. In addition, a governor could now be re-elected even after the expiry of his term. Also benefited from Driscoll, who was elected directly in a further four-year term after his first three years in office.
