Alfred F. Beiter

Alfred Florian Beiter (* July 7, 1894 in Clarence, Erie County, New York, † March 11, 1974 in Boca Raton, Florida ) was an American politician. Between 1933 and 1939, and again from 1941 to 1943, he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Alfred Beiter attended the common schools and the Williamsville High School. He then studied at Niagara University in Niagara Falls. Between 1915 and 1929 he worked in Williamsville in the trade. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party. From 1930 to 1933 he was mayor in Amherst.

In the congressional elections of 1932 Beiter was the 41st electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Edmund F. Cooke on March 4, 1933. After two re- election he was able to complete in Congress until January 3, 1939 three legislative periods. During this time many New Deal legislation of the Roosevelt administration there have been adopted. 1935, the provisions of the 20th Amendment to the Constitution were first applied, after which the term of the Congress ends, or begins on January 3. Since 1937 Beiter was chairman of the Committee on War Claims.

1938 Alfred Beiter defeated Republican J. Francis Harter. In the years 1939 and 1940 he worked for the U.S. Department of Interior. In the 1940 elections, he was re-elected in the 41st district of his state in Congress, where he replaced Francis Harter again on January 3, 1941. Since he has not been confirmed in 1942, he could spend up to January 3, 1943 just another term in the U.S. House of Representatives, which was shaped by the events of World War II.

Between 1944 and 1948 operational Alfred Beiter in Buffalo a hatchery. He also worked in the animal feed business. From 1949 to 1961 he was president of the National Customs union ( National Customs Service Association). After that, he was employed until 1964, the U.S. Treasury as deputy head of the Customs Department. He then went into retirement, he spent in Boca Raton. There he is on March 11 in 1974 died.
