Alfred Faure

The Alfred Faure Station (French Base Alfred Faure ), also called Port Alfred, is a permanently occupied sub ​​- Antarctic research station on the Crozet Islands in the southern Indian Ocean. The station is located in the eastern part of the Ile de la Possession, just south of the Baie du Marin, and belongs politically to the French Southern and Antarctic Territories.

The station was built in 1964 and is operated by the French Polar Institute Paul Emile Victor. The number of inhabitants varies between 15 and 60, the station from the research vessel Marion Dufresne II, which, from the Reunion 2860 km away is supplied with power from a total of six days to travel.

The fact that the station is inhabited all year round, France allows the use of 200 nautical miles wide Exclusive Economic Zone.
