Alfred Fowler

Alfred Fowler, CBE ( born March 22, 1868 in Wilsden, Yorkshire, † June 24, 1940 in Ealing, Middlesex ) was a British astronomer.

Fowler worked in the field of spectroscopy. As one of the first, he noted that the temperature of sunspots is less than that in the surrounding regions.

In 1914 he received the Gold Medal of the Royal Astronomical Society. In 1910 he was elected as a member ( "Fellow" ) to the Royal Society, in 1918, the Royal Medal awarded him. In 1920 he was awarded the Henry Draper Medal and 1934 with the Bruce Medal. In 1935 he was awarded the Commander (CBE ) of the Order of the British Empire.
