Alfred Hart Everett

Alfred Hart Everett (* October 1848, † June 18, 1898 in London) was a British civil servant and File Clerk in Borneo. He also made ​​a name for himself as an ornithologist, naturalist and zoological collector.

Life

Everett was born on Norfolk Island. In 1869 he went to Sarawak in the northwestern part of Borneo, thus allowing for natural history collections. After two years, he entered on behalf of the White Rajas of Borneo as British Resident of the Baram district in the service of the Kingdom of Sarawak.

As a man of the first hour, he appeared before the signing of the royal charter in September 1879 in the service of the later North Borneo Chartered Company and was commissioned to restore calm and order in Papar and Abai. From 1881 he was appointed Resident of West Coast Residency and commissioned in Kudat with the construction of the new capital of British North Borneo. For health reasons he gave back in 1883 this office to undergo a treatment in England.

Everett returned early in 1885 back to Borneo and was appointed in the same year by Charles Johnson Brooke as his consul at the court of the Sultan of Brunei. His brother HH Everett moved to Sarawak.

Equipped with a Prospecting of North Borneo Chartered Company, he continued his natural history research in North Borneo and Sarawak.

1891 AH Everett was admitted as a full member of the British Ornithological Union.

Everett remained single and died on 18 June 1898 in London.

Zoological Collection

Everett collected on behalf of Arthur Hay, 9th Marquess of Tweeddale, Walter Rothschild and other wealthy collectors. He was known for his collection of birds and mammals from Borneo and the Philippines.

Many of the collected animals were presented by Everett Museum in Tring Museum and the British.
