Alfred Herman

Alfred " Al " Howard Herman ( born September 8, 1889 in New York City, New York, † December 1973 in Los Angeles, California ) was an American art director and production designer, who at the Academy Awards in 1940 for an Oscar for Best Production Design was nominated.

Life

Herman began his career in 1933 as an art director and production designer with films such as King Kong and the white woman, Emergency Call, and The Past of Mary Holmes and worked until 1952 at the scenic equipment of approximately ninety films.

At the Academy Awards in 1940, he was nominated along with Van Nest Polglase for the Academy Award for Best Production Design and indeed for Leo McCareys melodrama Restless Love ( 1939) with Irene Dunne, Charles Boyer and Maria Ouspenskaya in the lead roles.
