Alfred Kelbassa

Alfred Kelbassa (* April 21, 1925 in Buer; † August 11, 1988 in Dortmund, actually Fred Kelbassa ) was a German football player.

Career as a footballer

Alfred Kelbassa was a sporty all-rounder. So he became German youth champion and West German champion in the pentathlon (100 m under 11 seconds, long jump 6.60m, javelin over 60 meters ). Consequently, he was physically robust, yet fast, so his game was generally marked by an immense force.

His football career began with black and white Bülse before he moved to SC Gelsenkirchen -Buer. During the war he played as a guest player for Holstein Kiel and Fortuna Gluckstadt, only to end up on the STV Horst- Emscher and Preußen Münster at Borussia Dortmund.

Here was the striker with Borussia in 1956 and 1957 German Masters. At this time he was also top scorer in the Football Oberliga West. Legendary was his interaction with different partners to Dortmund Preißler Alfred and Alfred Niepieklo as "the three Alfredo ", who inspired the opponents regularly great respect.

From 1956 to 1958 he played six times for the German national football team, scoring two goals. Kelbassa participated with the DFB team at the Football World Cup 1958 in Sweden and came there with the team to fourth place. In the team's formation, he wore the number 15 as a replacement player, he was only used in the match for third place against France on 28 June 1958.

Kelbassa ended after the 1961/62 season his career and was therefore no longer in the league squad 1962/63. After the injury of striker Jürgen Schütz -budgetary funds he has been reactivated for the final round games and four more times used in the group matches. So He is German champion in 1963, but was not in the league Bundesliga squad or squads.

After the career

Kelbassa was after the active time physical education teacher and clerk in the sports department of the city of Dortmund. He died after several strokes.

His son married the daughter of his strike partner Alfred Niepieklo, from their connection, a common grandson of two strikers emerged.

In 2012, the eponymous Alfred Kelbassa Street was inaugurated in Dortmund.
