Alfred Leo Abramowicz

Alfred Leo Abramowicz ( born January 27, 1919 in Chicago, † 12 September 1999) was an American Roman Catholic bishop.

Life

Alfred Leo Abramowicz attended the University of Saint Mary of the Lake and received on 1 May 1943, the sacrament of Holy Orders by the Archbishop of Chicago Samuel Alphonsus Stritch. From 1949 to 1952 he studied canon law at the Pontifical Gregorian University.

On May 8, 1968, Pope Paul VI appointed him. auxiliary bishop in Chicago and titular bishop of pesto. The Archbishop of Chicago, John Patrick Cody, gave him on 13 June of the same year the episcopal ordination; Co-consecrators were the Bishop of Manchester, Ernest John Primeau, and the Bishop of Madison, Cletus Francis O'Donnell. On January 24, 1995 Pope John Paul II accepted his resignation due to age. In 1993 he received the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland.
