Alfred Lichtenstein (philatelist)

Alfred F. Lichtenstein ( born August 6, 1876 in Brooklyn, † February 24, 1947 in New York City ) was one of the most famous American philatelists.

He grew up in Brooklyn and developed as a boy, his interest in stamps. Lichtenstein was president of the company Ciba in New York, a forerunner of the pharmaceutical company Ciba -Geigy. He had a very extensive philatelic collection of classic stamps, including the " Bordeaux Letter ", which his daughter Louise Boyd Dale (1913-1967) further introduced later. He worked as a juror at philatelic events. In 1945 he and others founded the Philatelic Foundation ( German: Philatelic Foundation ). In his memory, the Collectors Club of New York donated ( German: Collectors Club of New York) the Lichtenstein Award, which is awarded since 1952. The collection of him and his daughter was auctioned 1968-1997 in a series of auctions.
