Alfred P. Swineford

Alfred Peter Swineford ( born September 14, 1836 in Ashland, Ohio, † October 26, 1909 in Juneau, Alaska ) was an American politician of the Democratic Party.

Swineford was from 1871 to 1872 deputy in the House of Representatives from Michigan. In 1878 he competed in Michigan for the office of lieutenant governor, but lost in the primary of his party against Lysander Woodward, who in turn was the Republican incumbent Alonzo Sessions not defeat in the actual election.

Between 1885 and 1889 Swineford officiated then after the appointment by U.S. President Grover Cleveland as Governor of the District of Alaska. When in 1906 the first time a delegate was elected to represent the territory in Congress, he was a candidate, but was defeated by Frank Hinman Waskey another Democrat.
