Alfréd Radok

Alfred Radok ( born December 17, 1914 in Kaladey, Bohemia, † 22 April 1976 in Vienna, Austria ) was a Czech theater and film director.

Life

Radok was born into a Jewish family from Kaladey. He first worked as a theater director and from 1947 also for the film. His debut film Daleka cesta was the first and only for a few years Czech film, which had the persecution of Jews by the Nazis on the topic. The film was, however, drawn from the state film censorship from circulation. Even with his next film Divotvorný Klobouk Radok influenced other filmmakers. One of his employees was one among others Miloš Forman. After even more movies Radoks were banned, he worked only for the theater, especially the avant-garde Laterna magika and emigrated to Sweden in 1968.

" His influence on Czech cinema was far greater than the number of his films suggests: almost alone with his experiments in the period of Socialist Realism, he inspired a new generation to go further and to experiment with form and content "
