Alfred " Aki " Schmidt ( born September 5, 1935 in Dortmund ) is a former German football player and coach.

Career as a player

In 1956, the midfielder moved from the Dortmund suburb club SpVgg. Berghofen to Borussia Dortmund and has been with this club in 1957 and 1963 German Champion, 1965 DFB Cup winner in 1966 and won the European Cup Winners' Cup. In total he completed for BVB 195 inserts ( 57 goals ) in the Oberliga West and 81 inserts ( 19 goals) in the Bundesliga.

Ironically, a career highlight was one of his greatest personal disappointment: In 1957, he was - as a regular player of Borussia Dortmund and current national team - not used in the final of the German Cup against Hamburger SV, because coach Helmut Schneider wanted to run up the exact same team that in previous year had won the title.

In the National Team, he played a total of 25 times 1957-1964 and was with the German national team in 1958 fourth at the World Cup in Sweden. Schmidt was the first BVB player, the captain of the national team.

Career as a coach

During his active time Schmidt began at the Sports University in Cologne from 1966 to earn his coaching diploma. After his playing career, he worked then as a coach. From 1970 to 1971 he coached Kickers Offenbach and won with the club the DFB Cup of 1970. He defeated with Offenbach his old club Dortmund in the second round. When unterklassigen SSV Jahn Regensburg he coached 1968-70, 1973-75, 1990-92 and 1993-94. With the club he managed including a promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga and later a climb from the fourth to the third division. He was chosen in Regensburg "Century coach," the club's history. More coach stations have included in the 1971/72 season Preußen Münster and from 1972 to 1973 the FK Pirmasens.

After the career

Schmidt lived temporarily in Burglengenfeld at Regensburg, where he worked as a sports teacher. Private

Schmidt is the son of a steelworker of Hörder mining and metallurgical association. He is married and has two sons. Schmidt made ​​guest appearances on the RTL crime drama television series Balko. Today, Schmidt lives in the Dortmund suburb Neuasseln.
