Alfred von Domaszewski

Alfred von Domaszewski ( born October 30, 1856 in Temesvár, then in Hungary, now Romania, † March 25, 1927 in Munich ) was an Austria - Hungarian historian.

Domaszewski was the son of 1881 died in Adige Valley engineer Victor von Domaszewski and Pauline Preyss. He received his doctorate as a philologist in Vienna and was then a high school teacher at the Academic Gymnasium in Vienna, from 1886 also lecturer. On behalf of the Berlin Academy of Sciences and funded by the Ministry of Education in Vienna, he worked from 1882 with Carl Humann in Smyrna and on to the reconstruction of the Monumentum Ancyranum.

In 1884 he was hired as Kunstadjunkt at the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna. In 1887 he moved to the University of Heidelberg. Along with Rudolf Ernst Brünnow he put on the first map of the ancient city of Petra in present-day Jordan. Launched several occasions it was his work history of the Roman emperors.

His students included Ernst Hartwig Kantorowicz.
