Alfred Zwiebel

Alfred onion ( born November 6, 1914 in Fuerth, † 25 February 2005 in New York ) was a German -American painter, mostly of landscapes, flower paintings and still life.

Life

Alfred onion was born in Fuerth, in its fifth year, the family moved to Bamberg, where he spent his childhood and youth. The beauty of this city and its surroundings in the Franconian Switzerland gave him lasting artistic suggestions. By the end of his life included representations of the city of Bamberg and the Franconian countryside on his favorite subjects.

Onion emigrated in 1935 to the United States. At first he lived in Milwaukee, then in New York City, which became his second home town. In 1944 he became an American citizen. In the following years, he held a variety of occupations until he could devote himself entirely to painting in the sixties.

His paintings were soon in galleries and museums in many U.S. states - issued and in Canada, England, Austria, and Germany - New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Ohio, and California. When it was opened in the castle on the flower island of Mainau on Lake Constance, an art gallery, you invited a bulb, align the opening exhibition.

The city of Bamberg invited onion one to give an exhibition on the occasion of the celebration of its 1000 years of existence (1973 ) to participate in an exhibition to celebrate the 975th anniversary of the consecration of the Bamberg Cathedral (1987 ) and a large exhibition of his work at the Historical Museum to give (1993).

Painting

Onion worked in oil, pastel, and oil pastel. He was particularly known for its bright colors - an art critic in Starnberg described his works as " optimism, expressed in colors ". In his flower paintings he did not paint mostly flowers as such, but he converted it into fantasies of light and color. He loved the works of many different artists from different epochs and art movements, but felt most attracted by the French Impressionists, of which he was also most affected. Although onion no particular "school" imputing, he said that he would if ever call a " modern impressionists ". 1968 wrote the Munich evening paper: "You could call it a belated onion Pissarro, but with the Conditional that he is a Pissarro for today's eyes. "
